Alfred H. Maurer: Aestheticism to Modernism
November 30th - January 15th, 2000
Alfred H. Maurer: Aestheticism to Modernism shown at Hollis Taggart Galleries in November 1999 featured a stunning display of works which spanned the artist’s industrious career. Stacey Epstein, Maurer expert, curated this exhibit and authored the gallery’s catalogue essay, which was the first comprehensive exhibition and publication to focus on Maurer since the 1973 Maurer exhibition at the National Collection of Fine Arts (now the National Museum of American Art).
Manierre Dawson: American Pioneer of Abstract Art (1887-1969)
October 1st - October 30th, 1999
This retrospective exhibition and accompanying catalogue provide the most comprehensive examination of this artist to date. With the presentation of some of his earliest works, including his masterpiece, the triptych entitled Prognostic, and never before exhibited sculpture, combined with the scholarly catalogue essays and the reprinting of the artist’s journal, we have sought to give Dawson’s work the intense scrutiny it has long deserved and bring recognition to this pioneer of Modernism.
