Hollis Taggart is pleased to participate in Independent 20th Century, which will take place on September 4-7 at the Battery Maritime Building in New York. Our booth, B7, will bring together Dusti Bongé and Ralph Iwamoto in a duo presentation that traces a pivotal shift in postwar American art, when Surrealism gave way to abstraction. Though drawing from radically different life experiences—Iwamoto was born in Hawaii to Japanese parents whereas Bongé was deeply influenced by her Gulf Coast surroundings in Biloxi, Mississippi—these two artists both found their way to the dynamic New York art scene in the 1950s, where they worked out their unique styles. Together, their work offers a timely lens on artistic transformation, identity, and the evolution of American modernism.
