Hollis Taggart is pleased to announce that it will be adding two contemporary artists to its roster: the Chinese painter Shuling Guo and the British painter Elizabeth Abel. Guo’s work will be included in an upcoming group show at Hollis Taggart Downtown – the gallery’s recently opened new downtown space – in October. Abel was recently featured in Boundless, Hollis Taggart Downtown’s inaugural exhibition. Both artists will have solo shows at Hollis Taggart Downtown in 2026.
Shuling Guo (b. 1986) is a Chinese-born artist renowned for her contemplative oil paintings that explore light, color, and emotional states. Guo’s work emerges from intimate memories, while exploring broader themes of transformation, regeneration, fragility, and resilience through a visual language shaped by her upbringing in China and life in the United States.Born in Chao' An, China, she graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 2010. Guo immigrated to the United States in 2019 and currently resides in Philadelphia. Her work has been widely exhibited in Beijing, New York, and Miami, and is included in the permanent collections of institutions such as the Central Academy of Fine Arts Art Museum and the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts Art Museum.
Elizabeth Abel (b. 2001) is a London-based painter whose abstract work is driven by instinct, memory, and emotional residue. Her practice is rooted in a process of excavation—unearthing sensations, fragments, and forms that trace human presence and absence. She works quickly and intuitively, building compositions where color, line, and form collide and dissolve. She received her MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art in 2023, following a BFA in Fine Art from the Slade School of Fine Art, London in 2022. Recent solo exhibitions include Metamorphosis at Ronchini Gallery, London (2025), and Bloomed at Noh-Art Residency, Naples, Italy (2023). Her work has been shown in group exhibitions including the Royal College of Art MA Painting Degree Show (2023), Haven at Steingold Contemporary, London (2022), and the Slade Degree Show (2022). At 24 years old, Abel will be the youngest artist in Hollis Taggart’s roster.
“We’re very excited to have Shuling and Elizabeth join our roster of illustrious contemporary artists,” said Hollis Taggart, founder and president of the gallery. “Part of our motivation for opening Hollis Taggart Downtown earlier this year was to expand the possibilities of our contemporary programming. Both artists will have their first solos in New York at our new downtown home next year, demonstrating the gallery’s continued commitment to identifying the best contemporary artists and sharing them with audiences in New York City.”
