Further Information

Hollis Taggart Galleries is set to kick off its first ever Frieze New York art fair with Allan D’Arcangelo: The Highway Paintings, a comprehensive collection of paintings and sculptures by the late American Pop artist. This follows the gallery’s highly successful 2014 show, titled Beyond Pop: Allan D’Arcangelo, Works From the Sixties, which included an exhibition catalogue.

The Highway Paintings booth at Frieze will be composed of a dozen works by D’Arcangelo, including the iconic Pegasus, from 1963, which is acrylic on canvas and measures 44 x 51.25 inches and features Mobil Oil’s flying red horse against a dark sky. Also featured will be two of D’Arcangelo’s “mirror” sculptures, including Side-View Mirror (1966), and Landscape on a Bus Mirror, from 1970.

Founded in 1979, Hollis Taggart Galleries has maintained a mission of presenting museum-quality works of art, maintaining an inventory and exhibition program motivated by scholarship, and offering personalized support in all aspects of art collecting. Over the past 36 years, the gallery has offered significant works in the American vernacular, from the Hudson River School to Impressionist, Modernist, Abstract Expressionist, and Contemporary art. The gallery was groundbreaking from the beginning in the field of scholarship, approaching its exhibitions with a curatorial bent, and engaging the foremost historians in the field to produce scholarly catalogues.

In addition to its two new ground floor spaces, including 521 W. 26th St., and the soon to be opened High Line 9 in West Chelsea, Hollis Taggart Galleries participates in numerous top art fairs throughout the year, including Art Miami, the Armory Show, Art Cologne, the Dallas Art Fair, the Toronto Art Fair, and EXPO CHGO. This year’s D’Arcangelo show will mark the gallery’s first booth at Frieze New York, which opens on May 2nd and runs through the 6th.
